(1978 Version)
The entire Halloween series is by far the best horror series ever made. It is the film which inspired so many others and it gave a breath of fresh air to the horror genre, steering it in a new direction. Michael Myers is an iconic horror villain as The Shape, or 'The Boogeyman' out to kill his younger sister Laurie Strode. The ghostly white mask is recognizable anywhere and the idea of a masked serial killer is said to have inspired teen slashers which followed; Scream, Friday 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street... the list is endless. Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis, her debut role which made her famous, later being nicknamed the Sceam Queen) also starts a trend of the horror film heroine. It's argued that Halloween is the first teen slasher and it shows the 'rules' which John Carpenter wrote were followed by every writer in this genre after until recently. These are; the innocent people surviving, curiosity killing and anybody who has sex being killed.
Halloween is seen as the best horror film ever made in many people's eyes for the reason that it is so chilling and filled with suspense. The plot of the first film is simple which makes it so fantastic, it doesn't need a complex plot to make it a good film, to get us on the edge of our seats. One memorable scene is when Laurie Strode is trapped in the closet and Michael is trying to break in. The many sequels to the origional did open up a wide range of possibilities as to where the series could go next and it's true that evil will never die, Michael Myers will never die.
Halloween gets 10/10 from me and it's down my my favourite film of all time, Jamie Lee Curtis being my favourite horror film heroine and Michael Myers is my favourite villain of all time. |

| I liked the version of Halloween made by Rob Zombie better than the original. Rob Zombie just has a flair about his movies that say that he doesn't care if you like them or not, he is going to do them his way. This movie did not scare me, like most scary movies do. This movie had direction and had a cast of characters who knew what they were doing. The soundtrack to this movie was awesome too. The original Halloween didn't keep my interest that long and I've never tried to finish it. This movie I sat down and watched from beginning to end. I am glad that my husband had me sit down and watch this film. You should watch this movie, you will NOT be disappointed by any means. |

Fuck, what a letdown ! I know purists are gonna hate me for this, but I don't get this flick. It pretty much sucks ! Okay, you got a killer on the loose in a small town who slashes babysitters, then is stopped, all that on Halloween day. Okay, that's a good starting point for a film... but that ain't much of a story for a whole film ! And this film is so lamely written ! I guess it was the norm back then, but 20 years later, we expect more. The main reason for that might be Kevin Williamson, who wrote the Scream movies, definitely the coolest slasher movies ever. Williamson started from all these lame horror flicks from some 15-20 years ago and made some smart, fun films. Halloween is barely exploitation. Yes, you see the things that inspired Scream, but it's all so straightforward ! Not the least bit of humor or irony here ! Okay, young people alone in big houses. A killer with a mask and a knife. And there's the rules as we now know them : you have sex, you die ; you say "I'll be right back", you're dead. And the good virgin kills the horrible killer. The end. I'm telling you, that's the flick !
Plus, the cast is so boring. They're all " B " actors with no future ! I prefer the hip teen stars of 90s films like I Know What You Did Last Summer, say ! Well, there's always Jamie Lee Curtis, who deserves her scream queen nickname, but she doesn't save this film. Neither does John Carpenter's excellent direction. I do like his style, and I appreciate all these long Steadycam shots through the killer's point-of-view. Carpenter's score is also cool, but that's it. The film is totally boring and pointless. I wasn't entertained, I wasn't scared, nothing ! There ain't even a single drop of blood in the film ! Please don't waste money on this overrated dud. And now, allow me to embarass myself by saying that Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho falls in the same fucking category. Both pictures are about psychotic dudes who go around stabbing people, and both films share the same masterful filmmaking. But, unfortuantely, a lack of wit or action makes both films unexciting. Yes, each film has a few interesting scenes, but that ain't enough. I guess I ain't such a fan of the plain slasher movie. I need some humor / hipness / intelligence to get into them, and that's exactly what Kevin Williamson brought. Fuc |

| The movie halloween is a great movie. I can remember as a little kid watching this movie and getting terrified. Its funny to look back on the things we were once scared. They are not so scary anymore. I would reccomend this movie to the teens now a days who haven't seen it. It is a fun and exciting movie that should be watched by everyone. |

| The new Halloween movie out in theaters now is awesome! It is directed by Rob Zombie and has an excellent soundtrack. As for the movie itself. It is SCARY! The characters depict the story well and although it was quite gory, it was an excellent viewing. The story line fits the series well and it was disturbing to see Michael Myers as a child and how it all started. It was creepy and very good! |

The kick starter of a brilliant series of horror films. This film introduces us to Michael Myers, a 6 year old boy who kills his sister on October 31st, 1963. His parents have him shifted to Smith's Grove Sanitarium where he is to stay until his 21st brithday, but on 30th october, 1978, he escapes and returns to haddonfield
Enter Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), a friendly and slightly gullible babysitter who keeps seeing this 'Shape' in the bushes and in her garden. Michael is back to kill anyone in Haddonfield, but his Doctor, Samuel Loomis is on his case. Can he stop Michael in time? |
